LOS ANGELES, July 6: In a surprising revelation during her Ellen’s Last Stand … Up tour, Ellen DeGeneres declared that her upcoming Netflix stand-up special will mark her farewell from the spotlight. According to SFGate, during a recent Q&A session following a tour stop on July 1, DeGeneres responded to inquiries about her future plans beyond the tour with a definitive "Um, no."
"This is the last time you’re going to see me," she told the audience. "After my Netflix special, I’m done."
DeGeneres also addressed past controversies, including allegations of a toxic work environment at The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which surfaced in a 2020 BuzzFeed News report. She candidly discussed feeling ostracized in the industry, reflecting on her public persona and the challenges she faced.
"I used to say, ‘I don’t care what people say about me.’ Now I realize I said that during the height of my popularity," she remarked during the show.
Referring to her earlier experience of being marginalized after coming out as gay, DeGeneres humorously anticipated another round of criticism in the future: "Next time, I’ll be kicked out for being old. Old, gay, and mean, the triple crown."
Throughout her career, DeGeneres has been known for her strength and resilience, acknowledging her personality traits candidly. "I can be demanding and impatient and tough," she admitted, emphasizing, "I am many things, but I am not mean."
News of her Netflix special, where she intends to address these topics head-on, broke in May. Variety reported DeGeneres stating, "Yes, I’m going to talk about it. Yes, this is my last special."
Reflecting on the end of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she expressed regret about its conclusion in April, describing it as "devastating." "I just hated the way the show ended," she lamented to Rolling Stone. "I love that show so much and I just hated that the last time people would see me is that way."
As DeGeneres prepares to bid farewell to her career in entertainment, her upcoming special promises to be a poignant reflection on her journey, controversies, and legacy in show business.
