KUWAIT CITY, June 4, (Agencies): Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali, Governor of Kuwait City, said that the committee formed between the Capital Governorate and Kuwait Voluntary Work Center will start fi eld work in the historical Souq Mubarakiya. The joint committee held a meeting on Tuesday, attended by the Governor and Sheikha Amthal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, chairperson of the voluntary work center, in which they discussed drawing a framework and placing systems regarding issues in Al-Mubarkiya, a statement from the governorate said.

Following a trip to the historical Souq, the committee was able to pinpoint issues regarding cleanliness, amenities, public facilities and start coming up with a plan to restore them and maintain the invaluable beauty of its heritage. Last week, the governor explained that Souq Mubarakiya carries a historical fragrance and ancient heritage value. It is an area that combines architectural, tourism, marketing and entertainment styles, and is regarded as one of the most attractive areas for citizens, residents and visitors from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as foreign tourists.

The Capital Governorate will spare no effort in supporting all efforts that would preserve the high style of popular heritage in Souq Mubarakiya, and cooperate with the relevant government institutions and private parties, in order to address all existing problems. This can be either at the level of public cleanliness or developing the necessary facilities and services, in addition to adding an aesthetic character while preserving the heritage value of that area.
