DUBAI, July 29: A Dubai-based jeweller who lost a bag containing diamond jewellery worth a staggering Dh1.1 million during a trip abroad has been reunited with his precious cargo—thanks to the swift action and international coordination of Dubai Police.
The drama unfolded when the jeweller, who had travelled to a neighbouring GCC country to take part in a high-profile jewellery exhibition, realised upon arrival that one of his four bags was missing—and in its place was a lookalike that didn’t belong to him.
Panicked and disoriented, the jeweller returned to Dubai the very same day and rushed to file a report with the General Department of Airport Security. Authorities wasted no time. A dedicated investigation team was assembled and quickly uncovered the shocking truth: a Bangladeshi traveller had accidentally taken the jeweller’s bag during routine airport security checks, mistaking it for his own due to their uncanny resemblance.
By the time the mix-up was discovered, the other traveller had already flown back to Bangladesh, completely unaware he was carrying a fortune in diamonds.
Dubai Police, undeterred by the international challenge, sprang into action. In close coordination with the UAE Embassy in Dhaka and Bangladeshi law enforcement, the authorities managed to trace and recover the missing bag. Miraculously, all jewellery items were intact and returned safely to the jeweller in the UAE.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, the jeweller said: “I truly don’t know how to find the words to express my appreciation. Your remarkable attention to detail and sincere commitment to making people happy are beyond commendable.”
Dubai Police, in turn, praised the cooperation of their Bangladeshi counterparts and reaffirmed their commitment to global law enforcement collaboration, ensuring safety and security extend far beyond the UAE’s borders.
