KUWAIT CITY, Dec 30: The demand for housing in 2020 decreased by 31.6 percent compared to 2019 and this is believed to be due to the corona pandemic, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The daily obtained a copy of the recent statistics from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW), indicating the number of housing grant applications submitted this year reached 4,225 -- lower by 1,946 compared to last year.

According to the statistics, the number of housing grant applications totaled 91,542 as of Dec 21, 2020; and that a remarkable increase in the number of applications was recorded between 2019 and 2020 -- an increase of 10,396.

It has been reported that additional housing projects must be implemented in order to shorten the list of citizens waiting for the approval of their housing grant applications; taking into consideration that the State disburses about KD14 million for rent allowance per month or KD165 million every year.
