LOS ANGELES, July 20: A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-400 caught fire mid-air shortly after takeoff, forcing an emergency landing. Video footage shows orange flames emerging from the plane’s left engine as it ascended. Josh, co-owner of the YouTube channel LA Flights, captured the moment, exclaiming, “Look at that!” and “Woah!” while filming.

The flight was en route to Atlanta but had to circle back and land safely on the runway. During the descent, Josh noted, “Thankfully, the hydraulics are functioning and we got the landing gear down for the 767.” He zoomed in on the left engine before confirming the plane had landed “nice and safely.” Emergency vehicles were seen approaching the aircraft upon landing.

A Delta spokesperson said, “Delta flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after departure following an indication of an issue with the aircraft’s left engine.”

Earlier in the week, another Boeing engine fire occurred, also in Los Angeles. Video captured a Boeing 737 jet sparking and shooting flames into the night sky shortly after takeoff, with passengers describing the event as a mid-air “explosion.” The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation after the right engine of a Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737 encountered problems moments after departing Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday night.

The pilot declared an emergency and safely returned to LAX. Flight 430, carrying 166 passengers and heading to Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, experienced an engine issue mid-flight. Fire trucks and emergency responders were on standby when the plane landed safely back at the airport.
