KUWAIT CITY, Sept 9: After a long wait of more than two years, the decision to award the third package of the T2 airport tender was produced through routine and the documentary cycle between the Ministry of Public Works and the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT). This is based on the decision by CAPT to approve the awarding of the tender for the establishment, completion, furnishing, and maintenance of the plot (package No. 3), and exclude the company with the lowest bid because it did not comply with the conditions and specifications.
According to informed sources from the Ministry of Public Works, the third package is located between the eastern and western runways and extends from Terminal 2 over an area of 3.210 million square meters. It consists of aircraft parking lots and corridors linked to the current runways, air service roads, and service tunnels linked to Terminal 2, an electrical station, a food supply building, a support building, and passenger bridges.
The Ministry of Public Works had issued a tender for the third package to be in line with the construction work of the new passenger building, and in order not to delay its work in light of the progress of work in the first and second packages related to the main building and its annexed buildings, so that all project work would proceed together. The sources said nine companies had submitted their bids to compete with each other to implement the work of the third package in accordance with the financial and technical conditions set by the ministry, adding that the ministry studied the bids to choose the most appropriate bid financially and technically, as per the law of public tenders.
