Customs Discover 14 Tons Tobacco in Asian Container at Amghara Warehouse

KUWAIT CITY, May 26: The Customs officials at the Department of Public and Private Customs Warehouses located at Amghara Land Depot have successfully intercepted and seized approximately 14 tons of illicit tobacco, which is prohibited from being imported into the country.

Under the instructions and directives of Mr. Sami Muhammad Al-Kandari, the Director General of the General Administration of Customs, to enhance control, examination, and inspection procedures for all incoming goods, the team at the Public and Private Customs Warehouse Administration – Amghara Land Warehouse, led by Assistant Controller Ziyad Al-Sarbel, intercepted a truck originating from an Asian country.

The truck was carrying a 40-foot container, supposedly transporting clothes and wall paintings as stated on the shipment manifest. However, the vigilant customs inspectors grew suspicious of its contents and conducted a thorough examination, leading to the discovery of approximately 261,000 bags of tobacco concealed within 521 bags, amounting to a total weight of around 14 tons.

Subsequently, the necessary customs procedures were implemented in accordance with the applicable regulations and laws.
