Court Upholds 7-Year Prison Sentence and 18 Million Dinar Fine for Fugitive Ministry Employee

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 1: The Criminal Court dismissed a grievance filed by an employee of the Ministry of Communications who was challenging a previous in absentia ruling that sentenced him to 7 years of hard labor and fined him approximately 18 million dinars for charges of forgery, embezzlement, and money laundering.

The accused was arrested upon his return to the country, following the in absentia conviction for embezzling around 6 million dinars. He was sentenced to 7 years in prison with hard labor, ordered to repay the embezzled amount, fined double the sum (12 million dinars), and dismissed from public office.

The Public Prosecution had earlier investigated the accused for misappropriating funds collected from 341 ministry subscribers through computer systems, transferring the money to three bank accounts in an attempt to conceal its origin. His actions were uncovered, leading to his flight from the country before his eventual arrest.
