Court denies bail for former military attaché accused of $1 million fraud

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 18: The Criminal Court has denied bail for a former military attaché of an embassy accused of unlawfully seizing over a million dollars from an increase in a health insurance contract without the approval of the relevant authorities. The court has adjourned the case to allow for the defense to present its arguments. The Public Prosecution has charged the defendant with misappropriating more than USD 100,000 through forged checks and documents.

Despite not being employed in that office, he was also accused of facilitating other foreigners in obtaining over USD 64,000 in travel tickets. It is worth mentioning that the Court of Cassation previously convicted the defendant for seizing public funds from the Ministry of Defense. In that case, he was sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labor and fined KD 300,000, but his sentence was suspended for three years.
