KUWAIT CITY, May 31: The Criminal Court cancelled the seven-year prison sentence imposed in absentia on a former MP, and acquitted him of kidnapping his own children and taking them to Turkey, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The defendant’s ex-wife filed a lawsuit against the former MP due to personal status issues between them.

She claimed that her ex-husband kidnapped their children and took them to Turkey when he travelled there due to the court verdicts issued against him. Meanwhile, the Court of Cassation upheld the verdict of a lower court that acquitted blogger Reem Al-Shamry of insulting the Egyptian community in Kuwait on social media, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The Public Information Affairs Prosecution in Kuwait had earlier ordered the detention of Al-Shamry pending investigation. She was released after being charged with insulting the Egyptian community in the country. Investigations revealed the defendant committed information technology crimes due to her Twitter posts, which were deemed offensive to members of the Egyptian community in Kuwait.
