New criteria for sick leave in Kuwait
Civil Service Commission defines requirements for employees’ medical leave.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: The Civil Service Commission has officially issued a circular outlining three conditions for granting medical leave to government employees, excluding cases involving incurable diseases.

The circular, addressed to all state departments, specifies the following conditions for medical leave:

  • Submission of requests through the CSC’s official mobile application or online portal system.
  • Attachment of official documentation certified by the Ministry of Health confirming the necessity of periodic medical checkups.
  • Compliance with regulations governing routine medical leave, excluding incurable diseases.

In response to inquiries regarding incurable diseases, informed sources clarified that the circular does not include a specific provision for such cases, noting that the announced conditions apply solely to routine medical leave.

The circular also reiterates that medical leave for periodic examinations is governed under separate regulations approved by the Civil Service Council. These leaves are not counted among the four monthly leave days available to employees, as each type of medical leave is regulated by distinct articles within the council’s decision framework.
