KUWAIT CITY, June 8: Kuwait Anti-Smoking and Cancer Society said there is a high probability that the prices of cigarettes in Gulf countries will increase soon, reports Al-Jarida daily. In a press statement, Chairman of the society’s Board of Directors Dr Khaled Al-Saleh Al-Saleh disclosed that one of the important goals of the society is to intensify efforts in pushing for the increase of customs fees for cigarettes.

He said such fees will then be transferred to the Ministry of Health to support the national anti-smoking program, especially for the provision of nicotine patches and other treatments for smokers, in order to help those who wish to quit smoking. He added the society opened a quit smoking center in its headquarters in Qadisiyah in June 2021. Since since that date, the center has so far served 125 smokers, he concluded.
