KUWAIT CITY, Aug 15: Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have arrested a gang of drug pushers which was allegedly headed by a security man, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The daily quoting security sources said the CID men have seized from the 200 thousand narcotic pills with a street value of 600,000 dinars and a quantity of hashish, a pistol, a Kalashnikov rifle and ammunition, in 7,630 dinars in cash. Senior security sources told the daily the drug smuggling network consisted of six Kuwaitis, two of them working at the Abdali crossing point.

The sources indicated the drugs were received by the prime suspect, the security man, and then handed over to the other members of the gang to sell. The sources explained the smuggling process begins in Iraq, where the Iraqi accomplices dump the bags containing the drugs inside the Kuwaiti border and information is sent to the Kuwaiti military man, who then drives in his patrol vehicle, and picks up the bags and delivers them to his partners.

The main suspect has admitted to the charge and according to reliable sources the gang members drive in posh cars and wear expensive watches and rent luxury chalets and farms to hold parties. The daily added, the arrest came after information reached the General Department for Drugs Control (GDDC) and a security team was formed to search and investigate the issue and the main suspect and his partners were arrested after identifying their gathering place on a farm in Wafra. They have been referred to the Public Prosecution.
