KUWAIT CITY, Jan 5: A proposal has been prepared by unidentifi ed sources on the cost of recruiting domestic workers (servants) subject to approval by the ministries of Interior and Social Affairs and Labor which will then be circulated among the domestic labor offi ces, reports Al- Qabas daily.

The proposal includes a list of minimum salaries to be paid for domestic workers and the cost of hiring them. The salaries and cost of hiring vary according to the nationality of the worker.

The daily added, to hire a Filipino domestic worker it will cost the employer KD 270 and the monthly salary will range between KD 110 and KD 120; for an Indian KD 160 and the salary of between KD 70 and KD 85; for a Sri Lankan KD 200 dinars and salary KD 70; for those from Ethiopia, Nepal, Eritrea, Ghana and Madagascar the hiring charges will be KD 100 dinars and salary range between KD 70 and KD 80.

The sources said a circular will be sent to all media, household institutions and departments and affi liate embassies. The sources stressed the manipulators and cheats who exploit the citizens will be punished. The punishment will be one year imprisonment and KD 5,000 fi ne.
