NEW YORK, July 21: ChatGPT, the widely used AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, experienced a significant outage early Monday morning, prompting swift action from the company to address the issue.
According to OpenAI’s official status page, the disruption began around 7:00 AM EDT and has affected a large number of users, particularly those with paid subscriptions. The company acknowledged the issue and confirmed it is actively working on a resolution.
Monitoring site Downdetector also reported a sharp spike in outage reports during the same timeframe, underscoring the widespread impact of the disruption.
An alert issued by OpenAI described the problem as “elevated errors on ChatGPT for all paid users,” adding that the issue had been ongoing for at least 24 minutes at the time of the update.
As of this report, OpenAI has not provided an estimated time for full service restoration but assured users that engineers are investigating and implementing fixes.
