Scores file complaint against distributor

KUWAIT CITY, July 3: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry received 100 complaints against a famous luxury car distributor from citizens within five days; accusing the company of breach of contract and selling imported cars at higher prices compared to its competitors, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources. Sources disclosed the total financial claims lodged against the distributor amounted to KD3 million so far, pointing out this amount will most likely increase as more complaints are expected to be filed in the coming days.

Sources stated there are a number of complainants whose cars have yet to be delivered according to the contracts signed between the two parties, so the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry asked them to wait until the agreed date of delivery. In case the distributor fails to deliver within the agreed date, more complaints will be registered against it, sources added. Sources said the Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector summoned the owner of the car distribution office who affirmed his willingness to return the money of some complainants, clarifying that the office has been facing problems with shipping and slowdown in the production lines of factories abroad.

Sources said the owner of the office has so far returned the money of 10 complainants whose claims totaled KD420,000. Sources expressed concern about the possibility of a remarkable increase in the number of complainants in the coming days; making the owner of the office unable to fulfill his obligations, especially since he claimed that he used most of his money to pay the car agencies outside Kuwait in an effort to fulfill his obligations to his clients.
