KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: The Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) has approved the request of the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport (PART) to float the tender for the detailed study and design work project, and preparing documents for the tender for the Phase One of the railway project, reports Al-Qabas daily. Sources described this step as an achievement because it paves the way for moving forward towards the implementation of the project, which has been delayed for several years, noting that the estimated value of the consultancy project is about one million dinars.

The sources explained that the closing date is February 21, 2023, and until that date, a number of consulting offices (between 5 and 7) wishing to participate are expected to apply provided they have the necessary expertise in this field.

The sources indicated that the tender is expected to be awarded within 90 days from the closing date, after which the studies and final designs scheduled for one year will begin, after which the authority will offer contracts for the construction of the railway line.

The sources pointed out that the railway line extends for 110 kms from the southern border to the Shaddiyah region, as a station will be established between the south and west of the Abdullah Al-Mubarak, and is expected to be completed between two and three years.

Regarding the expected total cost of the project, the sources indicated that it is too early to talk about that before the completion of the study and then the start of issuing tenders. The trail left behind by the Covid-19 crisis has led to the scarcity of resources and manpower.
