WASHINGTON, Jan 21, (Agencies): In a heartwarming tale from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a cherished Basset Hound named Gus has been miraculously found alive after a week of being lost in the freezing streets. The 15-month-old dog had wandered away from his home, exposing himself to bitterly cold temperatures.

Gus’s owner, Teresa Nisperos, embarked on a frantic search when she realized her beloved dog had escaped, even braving the cold streets barefoot. Distressed about Gus’s unfamiliarity with the outdoors and the potential dangers he faced, Nisperos shared her immediate concerns, fearing he might get hit, stolen, or succumb to the harsh cold.

As an immunocompromised cancer survivor, Nisperos faced additional challenges in her pursuit to find Gus. She reached out for help on Facebook, and neighbors rallied to support her. Despite some sightings of the dog, the initial search proved unfruitful. Undeterred, Nisperos issued a second plea for assistance on the sixth day of Gus’s disappearance.

After a week, a breakthrough occurred when Gus was spotted in a rural area. Nisperos traveled to the location and, through her efforts, managed to lure him back into the safety of her arms. Overjoyed, Nisperos expressed gratitude for the community’s support, emphasizing that, being from the Philippines without family nearby, the rallying of neighbors felt like having a family in Canada.

Following his ordeal, Gus underwent a veterinary evaluation. Despite developing lesions on his nose, the medical team was surprised at his overall well-being after enduring a week in the cold. The heartening reunion highlights the resilience of Gus and the compassionate support from the community that helped bring him back to the warmth of his owner’s care.
