The launching of amateur football league to raise awareness of cancerous diseases.
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 9: The Cancer Aware Nation (CAN) campaign launched the 6th Kuwait Amateur Football League, with the cooperation of the Haido Academy, the sports arm of the campaign, and the Public Authority for Sports. According to a member of the Board of Directors of the campaign and the Executive Committee member Dr. Hessa Al-Shaheen, CAN seeks to diversify its activities to suit all segments of society in order to achieve its mission.
The increase in the various sporting activities is an important indicator of a societal trend to adopt a lifestyle in which physical activity is an integral part of daily or weekly practices. In her opening speech, Dr. Al-Shaheen stressed that the league is being held for the sixth year under the generous patronage of the chief of commentators Khaled Al-Harban, with the aim of raising awareness about cancer.
She affirmed that sports represent a strong shield against wrong practices that lead to reducing the body’s immunity and become a gateway to diseases including cancer. Dr. Al-Shaheen said CAN’s initiatives - health, scientific, cultural or social - aim to raise awareness. She highlighted the keenness of those in charge of the campaign to include sports activity due to the importance of this aspect in encouraging the adoption of healthy lifestyles that include physical activity.
Meanwhile, President of Haido Academy Abdullah Al-Saleh affirmed that CAN is honored to launch this important sporting event through which young people can learn how to fill their free time with sports and benefit from the positive impact it reflects on their lifestyle.
He highlighted the keenness of CAN to link sports and chronic diseases, adding that sports constitute the cornerstone of keeping young people away from risk factors that lead to reduced immunity and infection with diseases. In addition, Khaled Al-Harban expressed his happiness in being a sponsor of the sporting event, indicating that he, despite his illness, chose to come to the event. He thanked the CAN campaign and all its officials for requesting the sponsorship of the ceremony. Al-Harban also thanked Kuwait and all its men and women for their support.
