KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: The Burgan Club volleyball team has officially confirmed its participation in the upcoming 42nd Arab Volleyball Club Championship, scheduled to take place in Jordan from February 17-29. This announcement makes Burgan the second Kuwaiti team to join the prestigious tournament, following in the footsteps of Kazma, which is currently undergoing external training in Turkey in preparation for the event.
Due to the withdrawal of Baniyas from the UAE, the tournament draw will undergo a revision next week. Burgan, without an external camp, plans to travel to Amman, Jordan, on the 15th of this month. The team, led by Serbian professionals Irfan Hamza and Argentine Lucas Ocampo, will compete with its existing roster.
In addition to their volleyball endeavors, the Burgan Club handball team is set to participate in the Gulf Handball Club Championship hosted by the Al-Arabi Qatari Club from February 25 to March 5. The handball team will undergo an external camp in the Kingdom of Bahrain from February 13 to 23, followed by their departure to Doha. The team will feature current professionals Orange Semedo and Egyptian Mustafa Bashir, with a potential addition of a third local or Gulf professional in the goalkeeping position, as per tournament regulations.
Anwar Al-Otaibi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Burgan Club, emphasized the significance of the club's participation in both Arab and Gulf championships for competition, experience, and preparation in the ongoing season. He expressed the club's support for the volleyball and handball teams in their pursuit of success during these competitions.
Additionally, in a related development, the Burgan Club handball team has secured the services of Kazma player Abdul Rahman Al-Anazi on loan for the upcoming season.
