LOS ANGELES, Sept 30, (Agencies): Britney Spears sparked concern among her fans when she uploaded a video on her Instagram page featuring her dancing with knives. However, sources close to the singer assured the public that she is in good spirits and that the video was a deliberate act of "performance art."
In her initial Instagram post, the 41-year-old pop icon shared a video of herself dancing with knives, accompanied by the caption, "I started playing in the kitchen with knives today." The post raised eyebrows, prompting some to express concern for her well-being.
To alleviate the worries of her followers, Britney Spears later updated the post, adding, "Don't worry, they are NOT real knives!!! Halloween is soon!" This clarification aimed to reassure her fans that the knives used in the video were merely props.
A day after the initial post, Britney shared another video of herself dancing, this time without the knives. In her caption, she playfully said, "Lighten up about the knives, I'm copying Shakira!!!" This reference to Shakira's recent MTV Video Music Awards performance suggested that her video was more about artistic expression and entertainment rather than any genuine cause for concern.
Following the release of the knife dance video, authorities received reports and requests for a wellness check on Britney Spears. According to Captain Dean Worthy of the Ventura County Sheriff's Office, someone close to Britney had seen the video on social media and expressed genuine concern for her mental well-being.
Captain Worthy explained that the call came from an anonymous individual who had a personal connection with the singer. The Ventura County Sheriff's Office took the concern seriously and conducted a welfare check, vetting the individual through the LAPD to ensure their credibility.
During the wellness check, officers spoke to Spears' security team via intercom at her residence in Thousand Oaks, California. They were informed that she was "fine" and that there were no alarming circumstances. The authorities also communicated with Spears' attorney to further confirm her well-being.
Captain Worthy clarified that since there was no evidence of criminal activity or immediate danger to Britney, they did not enter her home forcibly. He stated, "Being a danger to oneself isn't a crime. I think we did our due diligence by going and responding and speaking to two people who are close with her who sufficiently told us she's fine."
In response to the visit by the officers, Spears shared yet another video on Friday morning, featuring her dancing with knives once more. This time, she offered a more extensive explanation behind her posts, perhaps aiming to clear up any lingering concerns among her fans.
