KUWAIT CITY, Nov 9: The British Embassy hosted its annual “Remembrance Service” honouring those who have lost their lives due to conflict or terrorism.

The service, officiated by The Reverend Dr Michael Mbona, brought together a diverse group of attendees including senior officials and representatives from Kuwait  Ministry of Defence, Kuwait Armed Forces, Kuwait Coast Guard, and Kuwait National Guard, esteemed Ambassadors and Defence Attachés, veterans, and serving members of Kuwait and the UK’s respective militaries, to pay their respects to the fallen - be they troops who died in service for their countries or civilians killed as a result of war or acts of terror.

Many attendees wore poppies - the flower to bloom on the devastated battlefields of World War One - as a symbol of both remembrance and hope for a more peaceful future.

During his speech, H.E. Sheikh Dr Abdullah Meshal Al Sabah, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence, said: “For the people in Kuwait, this occasion holds deep meaning. We will never forget the brave men and women of the United Kingdom and the coalition forces who stood by Kuwait during the darkest days of the occupation and fought for its’ liberation in 1991.”

Captain Neil Marriott, UK Defence Attaché, said:“Remembrance is a solemn moment to honour those who gave their lives so that we might enjoy the freedoms we have today. The horrors of war serve as a stark reminder of the cost of conflict and the enduring importance of pursuing peace. We remember not only the fallen, but the values they stood for. I am also deeply grateful to all those who joined us at the Embassy to mark this occasion - their presence helped make it a truly meaningful act of remembrance.”
