KUWAIT CITY, Oct 11: The detention renewal judge decided to extend the detention of individuals involved in the cooperative societies' corruption network uncovered by the Ministry of Interior. These individuals were found to be receiving bribes to pass products and prioritize their display in cooperative societies -- a violation of the rules and regulations governing cooperative work. In July, the ministry announced the arrest of a corruption network consisting of 19 individuals in two separate incidents.
These individuals include five employees of cooperatives and the Cooperative Societies Union, 14 intermediaries, and employees of six commercial companies. The ministry explained at the time that the defendants, including four members of the union, a member of the Board of Directors of a cooperative, two employees of the union and the cooperatives, and nine employees of commercial companies, received money as bribes in exchange for granting illegal facilities, passing products from certain companies, and granting them priority display within the cooperatives.
