WASHINGTON, June 9: US President Joe Biden on Wednesday revoked three bans on several Chinese social media apps, including TikTok and WeChat, imposed by his predecessor Donald Trump, replacing them with an assessment of their risks to US national security. The decision came in an executive order, signed by Biden, in regards to Trump's executive order, which declared the applications a "national emergency," back in May 2019.

Biden's executive order declared the matter an "ongoing national emegency" and a "threat posed to the United States' information and communications technology and services (ICTS) supply chain." His decision employs the use of "rigorous, evidence-based analysis" of the Chinese-owned apps, saying that they "may present an undue or unacceptable risk to the national security" of the US, and its people.
