KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: In a major security operation, the Ministry of Interior, through its Criminal Security Sector, has dismantled a gang involved in the systematic theft of government transformers and electrical cables.

According to the General Department of Criminal Investigation – Capital Governorate Investigations Department, detectives from the Jaber Al-Ahmad Investigations Office tracked down the suspects after weeks of close surveillance and extensive investigations.

On Monday, August 25, officers caught the prime suspect red-handed in the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area while transporting and storing stolen government cables. Large quantities of the stolen items were seized from his possession.

Further investigations led to the arrest of several accomplices. According to the post on MOI X (formerly known as Twitter), it identified Bangladeshi and Indian nationals. The suspects confessed to their involvement in the thefts and the subsequent resale of the cables. They also revealed that the operation was being carried out with the knowledge and participation of a Kuwaiti national, Aziz Obaid Rashid Al-Mutairi, who owned the property used for storing the stolen cables. Al-Mutairi admitted his role in the crimes and confirmed that the profits were shared among the group.

Security teams discovered a significant stockpile of stolen government cables at the storage site.

Investigations expanded to reveal another group of workers employed by Al-Khunaizi Company, a contractor with the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy. These workers were caught loading stolen cables onto a government-owned vehicle belonging to the ministry. During questioning, they confessed to abusing their official positions by withholding leftover cables from ministry projects and selling them to the first defendant instead of returning them to government stores.

The accused also led to another warehouse that was the main buyer of the stolen cables, where he was caught with large quantities of cables. He admitted to buying them despite knowing they were stolen. It was found that the weight of the seized cables exceeded a ton.
