Bahrain finalizes preparations for the Asian Youth Games

MANAMA, Oct 5: The Kingdom of Bahrain is in the final stages of preparations to host the Asian Youth Games, set to welcome the continent’s top young athletes for the first time.

The Games, held under the high royal patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, will take place from October 22 to 31, 2025, featuring 4,250 athletes representing all 45 Asian National Olympic Committees, supported by 900 officials and 700 coaches. This marks the first time Bahrain hosts the Asian Youth Games, a historic milestone in the development of sports in the Kingdom.

Competitors will take part in 249 events across 26 Olympic and traditional Asian sports, held at 23 venues, supported by over 30 training facilities and three main zones, ensuring optimal conditions for high-level competition.

Thousands of spectators are expected to attend, with the official mascot “Shihab”, an Arabian oryx symbolizing vitality, strength, agility, and ambition, leading the celebrations. Two additional mascots, “Najm” and “Dana”, will welcome Asian delegations, representing Bahraini hospitality, hope, and optimism.

Hussein Al-Musallam, Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, said:

"Excitement is building across Asia as the 2025 Asian Youth Games approach. Bahrain is fully prepared to host a spectacular event that showcases the future stars of Asian sports. These young athletes represent the next generation, and we look forward to seeing them compete on the international stage."

He added that the Games offer more than just competition, providing young athletes with the chance to explore different Asian cultures, gain valuable experience, and build lasting friendships. Bahrain’s first time hosting the Games is expected to leave a lasting and inspiring legacy, encouraging youth in the Kingdom and across Asia to embrace sports and pursue their dreams.

A dedicated workforce of 1,200 staff members and 3,000 volunteers will ensure the smooth organization of all competitions and activities nationwide.
