KUWAIT CITY, Sept 14: Kuwait has officially bid farewell to the intense summer heat and entered the autumnal equinox season, meteorologist Issa Ramadan said, describing September as a transitional period marked by shifting weather patterns and the onset of cooler conditions.
Ramadan stated, "September is a transitional month between summer and fall, with signs of climate change beginning to appear, as temperatures gradually decline and winds generally become stagnant."
He noted that the month signals the start of the Safri days, a seasonal period often linked to an increase in health concerns such as allergies, colds, and eye infections. This is primarily due to the widening gap between maximum daytime and minimum nighttime temperatures.
Ramadan explained that the decline in maximum temperatures is due to several factors, including the reduced angle of sunlight, shorter daylight hours, and the weakening of the Indian monsoon depression. These shifts allow for the movement of air masses and western depressions into the region.
He pointed out that Kuwait is moving past the extreme heatwaves that saw temperatures soar to 48–50°C during peak summer. In contrast, early morning temperatures in desert areas this month may dip below 25°C on certain days.
Ramadan also highlighted that September marks the beginning of autumn and the Al-Wasm season—widely anticipated as the start of the rainy period in Kuwait and across the region. This seasonal shift aligns with the appearance of the Sarfa Star, traditionally seen as a sign of the end of extreme heat and the beginning of milder, more comfortable weather.
"The changing climate opens the door to improved conditions for daily activities and a noticeable shift toward cooler weather," he added.
