KUWAIT CITY, Oct 8: Arab Times Editor-in-Chief Ahmed Al-Jarallah welcomed a high-level delegation from the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Dubai, signaling a new chapter of engagement between Kuwait’s media and Hong Kong’s trade leaders. The visiting HKETO team, led by Director General Simon Chan, Deputy Director Jackson Wong, and Head of Public Relations Cherrie Cheung, opened discussions on deepening cooperation across news, business, and cultural sectors.

During the meeting, Mr. Al-Jarallah and the delegation explored ways to highlight positive developments in Hong Kong-Kuwait trade relations. "Following our recent delegation visits, many Hong Kong businesses have been able to finalize agreements with Kuwaiti trading partners—a clear signal of growing trust and opportunity," a delegation spokesperson noted. The Hong Kong representatives emphasized the strategic importance of platforms like Arab Times in raising awareness about bilateral initiatives and fostering transparent business environments.

Following the Editor-in-Chief’s session, Managing Editor Marlon Aquino Malinao and Online Media Manager John Fernandes joined the HKETO delegation to discuss a wider range of topics. These included:

•tImplementation and impact of the Hong Kong-Kuwait Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement, which ensures greater security and support for investors from both sides

•tPractical steps in facilitating two-way business opportunities, including trade networking, start-up support, and knowledge exchange

•tStrengthening legal and regulatory cooperation frameworks at both the bilateral and GCC-wide levels

•tHong Kong’s role as a global exhibition hub and its influence on international tourism, particularly through events like its world-renowned jewelry expo

•tIncreasing tourism and cultural exchange, with initiatives such as expanding halal-certified facilities and promoting sports events attractive to Middle Eastern visitors

The Hong Kong delegation also showcased the city’s status as the world’s largest offshore Renminbi center, making cross-border trade and investment more seamless for Middle Eastern partners. Success stories were discussed, including collaborations between Chinese tech firms, Hong Kong investors, and Gulf market leaders—for example, a driverless vehicle project at Qatar’s airport.

Both the Arab Times and the HKETO officials expressed strong optimism for future collaborative projects. The delegation reaffirmed that all these business services, ranging from networking to trade facilitation, are fully complementary, aimed at fostering reciprocal growth and innovation. As the meeting concluded, Director General Simon Chan invited the Arab Times team to witness Hong Kong’s business and cultural dynamism firsthand, reinforcing the spirit of partnership between the two regions.
