Anti-graft body pledges to fight corruption, back transparency

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 12: The Public Authority for C o m b a t i n g Corruption in partnership with various government agencies as part of its efforts continues to promote integrity, transparency and combating corruption in Kuwait, reports Al-Rai daily.

A familiar source told the daily close cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior and the concerned government agency will work in the framework of investigation and exchange of information on issues affecting public money in particular.

The source added, the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah has expressed his keenness to provide all the assistance that will contribute to help achieve the goals in eliminating the sources of corruption.

The source said the two sides have signed a draft protocol of cooperation, which provides the Anti- Corruption Authority facilities and assistance to examine all received communications, especially as the Commission often suffer from lack of information, research and investigation.” The sources noted the “the Authority will use this aspect of the department of combating money crimes which has considerable expertise and will support the Commission in carrying out its investigations and reports in cases in which it requests assistance.”

The source pointed out the department that looks after fight against money crimes plays an important role in supporting the Public Prosecution, especially in cases of thefts and embezzlement of public and private funds that are ambiguous. T

he source added, the Department also plays an important role in the conduct of special investigations on legal persons and banking institutions to work against money laundering crimes and the investigation of financial centers for those referred to the Attorney-General, as well as its role in combating crimes of embezzlement and bribery.

The source revealed one of the most prominent issues handled by the department is what is known as the issue of hospitality of the Ministry of the Interior, which played a pivotal role and achieved impressive results, away from any leaks.

The source said that the protocol of cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior and the concerned body will contribute to speeding up the decision of the communications and cases before the Commission and open the door to similar memorandums of understanding between the Authority and the various state bodies to contribute to creating a prosperous Kuwaiti society characterized by transparency and integrity.
