KUWAIT CITY, May 4: Al-Shabab reignited the race for the Zain First Division League title with a commanding 3-0 victory over league leader Al-Jahra in their Round 16 clash held recently at Al-Shabab Stadium. In the same round, Al-Sulaibikhat and Al-Sahel settled for a 1-1 draw.
Despite the setback, Al-Jahra—nicknamed the “Sons of the Red Palace”—remained at the top of the standings with 19 points. However, Al-Shabab closed the gap and climbed to second place with 18 points, equaling Burgan, which had a bye this round. Al-Sulaibikhat improved to 16 points, while Al-Sahel’s qualification hopes were all but dashed, remaining on 11 points.
Al-Jahra has now dropped eight points across its last four matches, allowing its competitors to narrow the title gap. The pressure may increase further as Al-Jahra will sit out the upcoming 17th round. That round will feature crucial matchups, including Burgan vs Al-Sulaibikhat and Al-Shabab vs Al-Sahel, both scheduled for the day after tomorrow.
