Al-Otaibi: Amir’s patronage elevates Kuwaiti shooting to global heights

His Highness the Amir’s representative announces the opening of the tournament in the presence of Duaij Al-Otaib.

KUWAIT CITY, April 13: The His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah International Grand Prix Shooting Championship, hosted by the Kuwait Shooting Sports Club, continues today (Monday) with the men’s and women’s skeet qualifying rounds. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex, with the finals scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (women) and 3:00 p.m. (men).

The championship officially launched Saturday evening, with Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governor Sheikh Sabah Badr Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah declaring the tournament open. The ceremony was attended by governors, representatives of the International Shooting Federation, and several officials from continental and national shooting federations. In his remarks, the governor wished all participating athletes success in this prestigious global event.

Duaij Al-Otaibi, President of the Kuwait Shooting Sports Club and head of the tournament’s higher organizing committee, expressed pride in hosting the championship under the patronage of His Highness the Amir. Speaking to reporters, Al-Otaibi highlighted the broad international participation and extended deep gratitude to His Highness for his ongoing support, which has significantly boosted the development of Kuwaiti shooting.

“The Amir’s patronage reflects his fatherly support for shooting at the local, regional, and global levels,” Al-Otaibi said, acknowledging the efforts of various government bodies in ensuring the tournament’s success.

He emphasized that the championship features elite shooters from across the globe, leading to intense and high-level competition. He also thanked the delegations and officials who attended the opening ceremony.

Bashar Abdullah, Acting Director General of the Public Authority for Sports, praised the outstanding organization of the event, noting the Kuwait Shooting Club’s excellence in hosting international tournaments and achieving Olympic and global milestones. He confirmed the Authority’s full support, stressing that successful federations like the Shooting Club deserve continued investment to elevate Kuwaiti sports on the world stage.

In his opening remarks, Alessandro Giacomo, Secretary General of the International Shooting Federation, emphasized the significance of the Amir’s Grand Prix in advancing the sport globally. He lauded the Kuwait Shooting Federation, led by Al-Otaibi, for its pivotal role in fostering shooting in the region and for regularly hosting key competitions and specialized training courses for technical and refereeing staff.
