KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26: Director of the Jahra Health District, Dr. Jamal Al-Duaij, said the Jahra Hospital is a medical city operating at 70 percent of its capacity.

Al-Duaij speaking at the annual event of the internal medicine department in the hospital on anemia and iron deficiency, disclosed the Ministry of Health’s keenness to expand the opening of clinics and specialties in it, as it is one of the large health facilities in the country and covers the Jahra Governorate, saying the Ministry is providing it with medical personnel in various specialties to provide health care to the people of Jahra.

He explained that the hospital administration has opened new departments for nuclear medicine and ophthalmology, and there are departments that will be opened soon to serve all patients.

In turn, internal medicine consultant, head of the department, Dr. Aziz Al-Dhafiri, told Al-Rai that the event is held annually from November 26 to enhance health awareness about anemia and iron deficiency diseases and target the group that is susceptible to them, such as children, pregnant women, and those with chronic diseases such as heart and kidney failure.

Al-Dhafiri considered that “the turnout was successful” and that he was keen to inquire about the symptoms and available treatment methods, such as injections or pills, with follow-up at the hematology clinic, calling on adults and children to undergo regular blood tests to prevent anemia.

For her part, Dr. Aisha Al-Ajmi said that the symptoms of anemia caused by iron deficiency include headaches and fatigue, in addition to academic delay, lack of concentration, poor memory, and pale facial color, as well as mouth ulcers, shortness of breath, cold extremities, hair loss, and broken nails.

Al-Ajmi pointed out that the most common groups affected by anemia caused by iron deficiency are pregnant women, teenage girls, and young people who follow harsh diets or diets, as well as children. The event was supervised by Aisha Al-Ajmi, Warej Al-Saidi and Amal Al-Otaibi from the Internal Medicine Department at Al-Jahra Hospital.
