RIYADH, Oct 25: Al-Hilal dealt another blow to Al-Ittihad, securing a 2-0 victory in the sixth round of the Saudi Pro League (Roshn League).
The first goal came in the 41st minute through an own goal by Al-Ittihad’s Mamadou Doumbia, giving Al-Hilal the lead. Marcos Leonardo added a second in the 57th minute, converting a rebound from goalkeeper Hamed Al-Shanqeeti.
The win lifted Al-Hilal to 14 points, placing it third, just one point behind second-placed Al-Taawoun and one point behind leader Al-Nassr. Al-Ittihad remained at 10 points in seventh place, marking its third consecutive league setback following a loss to Al-Nassr in round four and a draw against Al-Fayha last week.
The opening goal was historic, marking Al-Hilal’s 500th goal in Saudi Pro League history, with Marcos Leonardo’s strike becoming the 501st. This achievement made Al-Hilal the first team to surpass 500 goals in the league, according to Opta statistics.
Al-Hilal now leads the all-time scoring chart, 54 goals ahead of Al-Nassr, who sit second with 447 goals since the league’s 2008-2009 season.
