KUWAIT CITY, April 5: Former MP Badr Al-Dahoum filed an appeal at the Court of Cassation regarding the Constitutional Court’s decision to cancel his parliamentary membership despite the final verdict of the Court of Cassation which confirmed the legitimacy of his candidacy and victory in the 2020 National Assembly elections. Al-Dahoum disclosed he is hoping that the response to his appeal confirms the finality of verdicts issued by the Court of Cassation; hence, such verdicts should not be appealed by any other court or subject to other courts cancelling them or issuing a contradictory decision.

In another development, MP Marzouq Al-Khalifa called on National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim to resign; otherwise, the latter should be dismissed soon. He pointed out that the resignation of Al-Ghanim is the normal course of action which should be taken due to the recent violation of the Constitution and manipulation of voting on the request of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid to suspend grilling motions filed and will be filed against him for almost one and a half year.

Al-Khalifa also forwarded queries to Minister of Finance and Minister of State for Economic and Investment Affairs Khalifa Hamada about the contracts regarding chalets granted to citizens from Jan 1, 2021 till date including the names of beneficiaries, size and location of each chalet. He asked Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Essa Al-Salman for the list of industrial plots granted to citizens from Jan 1, 2021 till date including the names of beneficiaries, date of granting the plot, and size and location of each plot.

He submitted questions to Minister of Oil and Higher Education Muhammad Abdullatif Al-Fares regarding the contracts signed by Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation (KNPC) from Jan 1, 2021 till date and requested for copies of these contracts. In addition, MP Osama Al- Shaheen forwarded queries to Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Nazaha Enhancement Abdullah Al-Rumi about law number 5/2020 — the amendment of law number 38/1980 on the appeal against judicial misconduct ratified in the session held on June 17, 2020. He wants to know if the amended law was published in Kuwait Gazette or not and if His Highness the Amir rejected the law as per an Amiri Decree in this regard. If yes, he demanded for a copy of the decree.
