‘Airport staffer helps woman leave Kuwait using passport of another’ – Large quantity of pens, lighters with miniature cameras seized

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 27: An investigation has been opened to figure out how a Bedoun woman managed to leave the country through Kuwait International Airport using the passport of a Kuwaiti woman without being caught, reports Al-Qabas daily.

According to security sources, security authorities at Kuwait International Airport received information from their UAE counterparts that a Bedoun woman was seized on arrival for attempting to enter the country with a Kuwaiti woman’s passport and that they have repatriated her. The sources said preliminary investigation with the suspect revealed that an employee assisted her in leaving the country especially since it was quite obvious that the passport was not hers because the photograph in the passport was of a completely different woman.

‘Spying’ units seized: Air Freight customs officers foiled an attempt to smuggle large quantity of pens and lighters with miniature cameras that are used for spying, reports Al-Shahed daily. Investigations revealed that the consignment was imported from China by a local trading establishment. Legal action will be taken against the owner of the establishment.

Online thefts probed: Investigations are ongoing to find a skilled group of thieves who have been using phone numbers similar to that of some local banks and contacting several citizens and expatriates to ask them for their bank details including PIN numbers under the claim that they wanted them to update their information in the bank database. However, they use the collected information to transfer funds from those accounts to those overseas through online transactions, reports Al-Shahed daily quoting informed sources. They revealed that the online theft cases were discovered after various police stations received complaints from a number of individuals that they were subjected to fraud.

Citizen attempts suicide: A Kuwaiti citizen attempted to commit suicide while in custody of the Directorate General for Drugs Control, reports Al-Rai daily. According to security sources, the suspect was arrested for possessing and consuming drugs. He hoodwinked the guard while he was being taken to the investigation office, smashed a glass on a desk and used a broken shard to slit his neck twice. He was controlled and referred to the nearest hospital for treatment of two deep-cut injuries he sustained. The suspect will be referred to the Public Prosecution following the improvement of his health.

Man arrested: An unidentified individual was arrested for allegedly consuming drugs, reports Al-Rai daily. According to a security source, a group of young men were camping in a desert in Mutla’a area when they were surprised by an individual who requested them to protect him from some individuals who were following him. However, the young men did not find anyone following him but noticed he was in a disoriented state. They notified the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior after which securitymen rushed to the location and took the man to Jahra Police Station.

Antique pieces stolen: An unknown individual broke into the house of a Kuwaiti woman in Al-Zahra area and stole two antique pieces, reports Al-Shahed daily. Officers from the General Department for Criminal Evidences collected evidences and lifted fingerprints to identify the culprit.
