KABUL, Nov 11, (Xinhua): Afghan police have broken up a robbery gang and arrested 14 members of it in Herat City, the capital of western Herat province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced Tuesday.
The arrested gang members were engaged in armed robberies and thefts on the outskirts of Police District 9, according to the ministry's statement. Authorities recovered seven Kalashnikov assault rifles, three motorcycles, and various stolen items, including cell phones from their possession.
The Afghan government has pledged to intensify efforts to combat crime, disarm illegal individuals, and disrupt drug networks to restore peace and security across the war-ravaged country.
