A message from my heart and mind

This is a message from my heart and my mind. I hope it finds its way to you.

I am a Kuwaiti citizen, and my culture, language, and upbringing are Arab. Many others like me, I have countless fears about our situation in the Middle East, but they have recently met with a number of hopes and dreams that we hope will be fulfilled, even if some of them, by you and the hands of the leaders of the region, before most of us leave this world.

We are tired, and our souls, bodies, and economies of our countries are tired, and our families and societies are tired of the region’s conflicts, which once seemed to be endless.

We have been claiming for decades that America is our enemy, that Israel is our adversary, and that the West wants to annihilate us and absorb our resources, and yet we work through our differences to achieve all their hopes and aspirations, and we make them happy and delight their ears with news of the continued collapse of the conditions of our societies, and our backwardness in education, industry, health, environment, and even morals.

You are the leader of the Iranian nation, and surely you know your people better than I do, and I would not dare to advise you what you should do, but there are, as you know, Sir, millions of the best minds who have emigrated from Iran, and there are as many who are eager to emigrate, today rather than tomorrow in search of the dignity and freedom that they claim they lack in their homeland, and that they do not want someone to “drive” them by force to heaven, because they know the way well, and the duty of governments, as you are well aware, is to create free, prosperous and educated peoples who love their country and have self-esteem and dignity.

Despite my attachment, and millions of others, to Iran, for reasons that are too many to explain, I have not visited Iran, which is our neighboring country, more than once, over sixty years. I long for, and with me, the citizens of the two shores of the Gulf to visit each other and cooperate in various fields for the benefit of the communities of the region, and it seems that there is a glimmer of hope that this matter can be achieved soon.

Allow me, Sir, to convey to you the image of the “Iranians”, which is in the imagination, thought and understanding of the majority of us. We believe that your people are a great and friendly people, close to the heart and we can coexist with them, and our cooperation will be a source of good for all, as long as we put aside hatred and make our intentions clear.

It is also a brave people, with great capabilities and  well-known for their work and creativity and with extensive experiences, and among them are creators in all arts and cultures, great poets and thinkers, and a percentage of them now live abroad, far from a homeland that you cannot forget, and in your hand alone is their return to their homeland to contribute to building it; and to end the conflicts of the region, and to lay the building blocks for cooperation with the other peoples of the region, who are as eager as they are for peace and prosperity.

The whole matter is in your hands, and you can do the impossible and make your people happy in this holy month, and the peoples of the region, by devoting completely to the issues of the Iranian nation and the freedom and dignity of the individual in Iran.

I know that one of your aspirations is to revive the glories of “Islamic civilization”, in which the legacy of the Persian school of “Jundaishapur” had a role, and we cannot forget the great years of Arab-Persian cross-fertilization and cooperation at the hands of the likes of Al-Farabi, Al-Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina, Al-Razi, Al-Tabari, Muslim, Al-Tirmidhi, Al-Ghazali, Sibawayh and Al-Khalil Ibn Ahmad Al-Farahidi, Al-Hallaj, Al-Sahrawardi, Ibn Al-Roumi, Shams Al-Tabrizi, Al-Attar, Omar Al-Khayyam, Hafez, and dozens of others.

This revival of civilization cannot be achieved by one hand. It must have the other hand to act.
