9 dead in south India thermal power project mishap

NEW DELHI, Oct 1, (Xinhua): At least nine persons died and one was injured when a portion of an under-construction thermal power project collapsed in India's southern state of Tamil Nadu, confirmed a local cop on Wednesday. The mishap occurred in the state's capital city Chennai. All the deceased were laborers hailing from the north-eastern state of Asaam.

The laborers were working at a height of over 20 feet when the iron scaffolding installed for the construction of an arch suddenly collapsed, the local cop reportedly added. The mishap reportedly occurred at the under-construction 1,320-Megawatt Ennore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) thermal power project late on Tuesday. The injured worker was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
