83,000 medical emergency cases in first half of 2024

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7: Osama Al-Madhen, the official spokesman for the Medical Emergency Department at the Ministry of Health, announced that the department handled over 83,000 reports during the first half of this year. These reports involved transporting injured individuals, providing on-site treatment, or treating patients in hospitals between January and June.

In an interview with the "Ishraqat Kuwaitiya" program on Al-Akhbar Channel, Al-Madhen highlighted that the number of emergency cases is increasing year by year compared to previous years. He noted that the number of reports in the first three months of the year was about 5,000 more than those received in the following three months.

Regarding preparations for the upcoming winter season, Al-Madhen explained that the department is using data from the previous year to study all the reports received, assess how they were handled, and address the challenges faced. This analysis aims to improve response efforts during the winter months.

Al-Madhen emphasized that gatherings increase significantly during the winter season due to the popularity of camping. In response, the department is working to boost the number of first aid points at camp sites, in addition to the existing facilities. For example, an ambulance center has been established at Jaber Bridge on the southern island to serve the northern region, with additional points being set up near campgoers. The department is also increasing the number of emergency medical technicians stationed in areas with high concentrations of campers and desert visitors.

Al-Madhen added that the department is preparing specialized equipment, such as ambulances and four-wheel-drive vehicles, to ensure efficient emergency response, especially during weekends and in locations with large gatherings in camping areas across northern and southern Kuwait.
