KUWAIT CITY, Nov 4: A report submitted by the Ministry of Justice to the Parliamentary Public Funds Protection Committee last month includes the latest developments and procedures that took place in public funds issues during the first half of this year, reports Al-Rai daily quoting parliamentary sources.

The sources said, “The report revealed the existence of 74 cases related to public funds, which are still being investigated, out of 177 cases referred to the prosecution by government agencies, of which 103 cases were disposed of.”

The sources pointed out that “there were 43 public money cases that were filed by the Public Prosecution during the first half of 2023 by 12 ministries and government agencies — Health, Interior, Works, Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Electricity, and Justice ministries, in addition to the Court of Appeal, the Public Authority for Disability, the Public Authority for Housing Affairs, the Public Institute for Social Security, and the Kuwait Investment Authority, while there are 28 entities that did not have public money cases during that period.

The sources stated, “The Ministry of Justice confirmed in its report that there are government agencies that did not follow up on the cases and reports they submitted to the Public Prosecution, to find out what happened in them and complete the required legal procedures.

The Ministry explained that it was observed in the responses of some parties that verdicts were issued in some cases, without indicating whether or not those verdicts were final.

Some authorities indicated that verdicts had been issued in some cases, and did not clarify their nature, whether of conviction or acquittal. In addition, some parties addressed the Fatwa and Legislation Department to complain about the preservation decision issued by the Public Prosecution in some cases, and what was done regarding them was not followed up.
