6 deaths, 46 new infection cases reported in China

KUWAIT, March 22 (KUNA) — Chinese health authority Sunday reported six additional deaths and 46 new COVID-19 cases, of which 45 were imported from abroad.


However, Hubei Province whose capital is Wuhan City, the epicenter of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, recorded no new infection for the fourth day in a row, said the National Health Commission in its daily report Sunday.


Six deaths and 45 new suspected cases were reported on the mainland with five of the deaths reported in Hubei Province, it added.


The overall confirmed cases had reached 81,054 by the end of Saturday, including 5,549 patients who were still being treated, 72,244 patients who had been discharged after recovery, and 3,261 people who died of the disease, it added.


In addition, 273 confirmed cases including four deaths had been reported in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), 18 confirmed cases in the Macao SAR, and 153 in Taiwan including two deaths, it noted.
Known as COVID-19, the coronavirus, which first sickened people in China in December, is thought to have passed from animals to humans. The pandemic has claimed the lives of thousands of people, mostly in China, Italy, Iran and South Korea.
