KUWAIT CITY, July 2: Local fish market witnessed the return of “Mullets” after a fishing ban that lasted seven months (since early December 2018). A total of 500 baskets of mullet was sold at the fish auction in Sharq Fish Market for the price range of KD 25 – 35 per basket depending on the size of fish, whereas the price per kilo for large size mullet stood at KD2 and KD1.5 for medium.

In this context, head of Kuwait Union for Fishermen Dhaher Al-Soyan expressed hope that this season will be better than last season in terms of abundance of mullet fish and that the union is keen on sustaining fish resources, especially local fish produce, which is part of Kuwait’s staple food. He pointed out that all fish are for local consumption and export of the commodity is not allowed.

Also, he called on fishermen to adhere to the sustainable fishing regulations set by the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources and other relevant bodies with the aim of boost sustainable growth and preservation of fish resources, warning fishermen against violating the regulations to avoid legal repercussions.
