3 escape gallows as Kuwait hangs 5

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19: The Ministry of Interior executed five individuals on Sunday morning, including three Kuwaiti men, a Kuwaiti woman and an Arab expatriate. A total of eight individuals were convicted of premeditated murder and were scheduled for execution, but three of them obtained pardons from the victims’ blood relatives just hours before the executions were carried out.

According to security sources, the executions took place in the Central Prison building based on the judicial rulings issued against them. Among the executed convicts was a Kuwaiti citizen who was affiliated with a terrorist organization and had killed a police officer by running him over during the national celebrations in 2016. The Kuwaiti woman who was executed was sentenced for the murder of her friend in Sabah Al-Salem, and the sentence issued against her had been delayed since September in an attempt to obtain pardons from the victim’s blood relatives.

Also, a Kuwaiti citizen who had killed another in Kabad was executed. The sources revealed that three of the convicts managed to secure pardons, with one having completed the procedures related to the pardon, while the others were in the process of obtaining the necessary pardons from the victims’ blood relatives. Last September, the Ministry of Interior executed six convicts based on judicial rulings issued against them.
