$5.9 bln worth of tenders awarded in Kuwait in 2021

KUWAIT CITY, June 13 : Secretary General of the Central Agency for Public Tenders of Kuwait (CAPT) Usama Al-Duaij said the agency awarded 235 tenders worth KD 1.8 billion (USD 5.9 billion) in 2021. Number of the awarded tenders has been mounting on annual basis, however the total sum of the offers reached, in 2020, only 98 ones, worth KD 303.4 million (approx. USD one billion), due to ramifications of the coronavirus crisis, said (eng.) Al-Duaij in an exclusive interview with Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy had won the lion’s share of the tenders, last year, reaching 50 awarded contracts valued KD 107.2 million (USD 353.7 million). Coming second was the Ministry of Health (MoH), with 25 tenders worth KD 110.5 million (USD 364.6 million), followed by the Ministry of Education, 13 awards, valued at KD 31.3 million (USD 103.2 million).

Contracts
Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources ranked fourth, in this respect, with 13 offered contracts worth KD 20.5 million (USD 67.6 million), then Kuwait University, 11, KD 5.5 million (USD 18.1 million). Sixth was Kuwait Ports Authority: 10, KD 16 million (USD 52.8 million), seventh was the Ministry of Public Works: Nine, KD 20 million (USD 66 million), eighth was Kuwait Fire Force: Nine, KD 119 million (USD 37.9 million), followed by the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training: nine, KD 8.5 million (USD 28 million).

Al-Duaij added in the interview with KUNA that Kuwait Oil Company was the tenth with respect of the awarded tenders reaching up to eight ones, worth KD 1.3 billion (USD 3.9 billion), followed by Kuwait Civil Service Commission: eight, KD 3.9 million (USD 12.8 million) then the Ministry of Information, with and equal number of tenders worth KD 2.9 million (USD 9.5 million).
