KUWAIT CITY, Nov 28, (Agencies): In a significant move reflecting the values of tolerance and transcendence upheld by Kuwait's rulers, the Council of Ministers has given its approval for a draft decree aimed at pardoning individuals subjected to freedom-restricting penalties. The proposal has been submitted to His Highness the Emir of the country, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, for final confirmation.
Chaired by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Council emphasized that this pardon aligns with the directives of His Highness the Emir, underscoring its commitment to principles of mercy and compassion. The decision is seen as a manifestation of the enduring values established by Kuwait's leaders.
Expressing gratitude, the Council extended its highest thanks to His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, and His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad, recognizing the amnesty as a testament to their wise paternal vision. The move is expected to positively impact the lives of citizens against whom sentences were issued.
According to the Government Communication Center, a total of 49 citizens, who had previously been convicted and subjected to freedom-restricting penalties, are set to benefit from this amnesty.
In addition to the amnesty, the Council of Ministers highlighted its ongoing commitment to fostering collaboration with the National Assembly. The aim is to strengthen the relationship between the executive and legislative authorities for the greater good of the country, its citizens, and overall prosperity.
Furthermore, in a related decision, government sources revealed that citizenship would be reinstated for a number of individuals who had previously lost it.
