KUWAIT CITY, July 18: The General Authority for Food and Nutrition stated today about the seizure and destruction of 10 tons of fish and shrimp deemed unfit for human consumption, preventing their sale at the local fish market. Violations were recorded, and the individuals involved have been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal action.
Ali Al-Kandari, Director of the Capital Governorate Inspection Department, told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that the confiscation occurred during a surprise dawn inspection targeting fish transport vehicles near Sharq Market. The campaign led to the seizure of the entire contents of four refrigerated trucks.
Al-Kandari confirmed that immediate legal steps were taken to destroy the spoiled seafood, ban its circulation, and issue fines. He stressed that these actions are part of the Authority’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring food safety for all residents and citizens.
“The Authority is determined to take firm action against anyone attempting to sell adulterated or expired food,” Al-Kandari stated, emphasizing the inspectors’ strict adherence to food safety laws.
He also noted that, under the supervision of the Chairman of the Board, Director General, and Deputy Director for Inspection and Control Affairs, inspection teams continue to conduct operations across all six governorates. These proactive campaigns aim to prevent spoiled or unsafe food from reaching consumers’ homes and to monitor storage and sale conditions in food outlets.
Al-Kandari reiterated that these efforts align with Cabinet directives focused on ensuring food security by verifying the fitness of food for human consumption and monitoring expiration dates 24/7. The Authority has pledged to impose the harshest penalties on violators who endanger public health.
