Over 3 tons of spoilt foodstuff seized in Shuwaikh, Rai raids

KUWAIT CITY, June 13: Department of Encroachment Demolition at Capital Municipality embarked on campaign to inspect some warehouses in Shuwaikh Industrial Area and Rai and seized 3 tons 500 kilograms of expired food items, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

Head of Department Engineer Abdullah Jaber stated inspectors of Team “B” confiscated and destroyed 300 kilograms of spoilt olive oil, 2500 kilograms of egg, and 700 kilograms of cheese. He said the officials issued 33 citations, of which 20 involved foodstuffs and 13 for billboards.

He urged consumers to buy foodstuffs from certified outlets and call the Municipality via 1844448 whenever they suspect foul play. He assured the officers are working around the clock to receive complaints and will promptly forward cases to concerned units for necessary action.

Meanwhile, the emergency team attached to Mubarak Al- Kabeer Municipality conducted an inspection campaign covering shops, restaurants and public property encroachments within the governorate. The campaign coincided with the one initiated by the Public Relations Department titled “Your Health is Trust”. Head of the Emergency Team Nasser Al-Hajeri disclosed that three teams went to the factories in Subhan and seized 12 kilograms of expired chocolate.

They also issued citations for various violations such as expired billboard license and signposts mounted inside Qurain Markets without license. The officers removed 105 billboards and issued 11 warnings against encroachments on state property with five buildings violating electricity connection and specification certificate regulations, and nine complaints related to several activities.

Reports denied: Deputy Director- General of the Kuwait Municipality Khalaf Al-Mutairi has strongly denied social media reports that rotten foodstuffs were allowed to enter Kuwait, reports Al-Shahed daily. He affirmed the Imported Foodstuff Department is vigilant 24×7 and is doing its duty in the best interests of the citizens and residents to protect the national food security and health of every consumer. Al-Mutairi stressed the department always ensures all food items entering Kuwait via land, sea or air are safe and suitable for consumption.
