KUWAIT CITY, May 13: The Misdemeanor Court, presided over by Judge Anwar Bastaki, has sentenced three defendants in the Mangaf fire case to three years in prison on charges of manslaughter. Two additional defendants received one-year prison sentences for perjury, while four others were each sentenced to one year in prison for harboring a fugitive. The Public Prosecution referred the case -- related to a fire incident at a workers’ housing facility belonging to a company in Mangaf -- to the General Department of Investigations at the Ministry of Interior. The case was classified as a misdemeanor, not a felony, based on technical reports confirming that the fire was unintentional. Earlier, the detention renewal judge ordered the release of eight defendants on bail of KD300 each -- one Kuwaiti, three Indians and four Egyptians.
