KUWAIT CITY, Dec 15: The first flight from the Philippines carrying domestic workers arrived in the country on Tuesday. Kuwait Airport has banned 34 countries from flying directly due to the coronavirus pandemic.

28 maids arrived by Kuwait Airways flight from Manila, they were subjected to institutional quarantine procedures, following the completion of the airport procedures, reports Al Rai. The domestic workers arrived at T4 terminal, those with valid residence permit were allowed to enter but initially before boarding they had to do a PCR test and their sponsors had to register on Balslama app.

It is reported that 80,000 domestic workers are supposed to arrive in the country. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation in coordination with the health authorities and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior, have developed a plan to facilitate the entry of domestic workers, so that the number does not exceed 600 passengers per day, and the first trips were allowed for the two communities Filipinos and Indians as being the largest domestic workers currently outside the country.

The 28 workers underwent the following procedures:

  • PCR examination (in Kuwait)
  • Transporting them in buses to institutional quarantine in a hotel.
  • Send a message to their sponsors upon their arrival.
