KUWAIT CITY, Aug 27: After more than ten months of relentless investigation, the Kuwait Supreme Nationality Committee has unearthed one of the most complex nationality forgery cases in recent memory — a scandal tied to the file of a prominent, now-deceased sheep trader who had legitimately obtained Kuwaiti citizenship, only for his record to be later manipulated on a massive scale.
A Web of Forgery
What began as a routine investigation quickly unraveled into a web of deception. Investigators discovered that two Iraqi workers employed by the trader had been fraudulently recorded as his sons. Over the years, these false entries expanded, creating entire family branches — 62 people under one “son” and 159 under the other.
The deception did not stop there. The trader’s Iraqi wife, who had three children from a previous marriage, saw her children registered under his file as though they were his own. In reality, they were tied to their biological Iraqi father.
Altogether, five major forgeries were identified: the two Iraqi employees and the wife’s three children.
DNA Tests Tell the TruthTo untangle the mess, the Nationality Investigation Department launched a sweeping round of DNA testing.
The results were conclusive:
- Four of the wife’s children were genuine offspring of the Kuwaiti citizen.
- Three others were proven to belong to their Iraqi father.
But by then, the damage was already done. The three falsely registered children had spawned further affiliations — 23 people from one, 19 from another, and one from the third.
The Scale of the Scam
When combined with the affiliations tied to the two Iraqi workers, the fraudulent entries ballooned to a staggering 263 individuals falsely registered as Kuwaitis.
Closing the Case
Investigators described the case as exceptionally challenging, given the tangled lineages and overlapping maternal ties. Yet, through meticulous cross-checking and scientific verification, every claim was reviewed and every fraud confirmed. The file has now been officially closed, marking the end of a scandal that shook confidence in the integrity of citizenship records.
